Peter M. Echon
Arnold
Peter Michael Echon, 62, of Arnold, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, O'Hara Township. He was born Oct. 7, 1949, in New Kensington, the son of the late George and Dorothy (Robinson) Echon. Peter graduated from Arnold High School. He proudly served with the Army Blackhorse 11th Armored Cavalry during Vietnam. He is survived by his companion, Rebecca Greiner; his sister, Geraldine A. (Echon) Holycross (Ronald) and her children; his stepchildren and grandchildren, Bonnie, Bruce and Rory Baker, Beth, David, Alison, Andrew and Kristen Ostrosky, Brenda, Glenn, Tyler, Armani, Glenn III and Amber Cowen, Susette Mallonee and Jaclyn and Rich Johnson, Michelle, Russ and Christian Long, Mark and Karen Mallonee; and several cousins. A memorial service and military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 221 Ridge Ave., New Kensington. Interment was private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Funeral arrangements were handled by the PAUL R. AJAK FUNERAL HOME, Creighton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to 11ACVVC Scholarship Fund, c/o Ollie Pickral, treasurer, 571 Ditchley Road, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.

Remembering and Honoring Lane C. Johnson & Lanny J. Norman 2 men from f-trp/3rd plt. KIA 11/11/1968 by friendly fire. as a tank comp. approached our perimeter Please take a few minutes and check out the KIA info page on these 2 men. I'm trying to get the reason changed to`[other accident]. ` ` friendly fire was not used back then, during the Vietnam war.

Pete Echon, a member of F Troop and also assistant website manager for our website 11thcavnam.com and also for the F troop website is currently in the VA Hospital in Critical Condition because of Cancers and Tumors in his lungs, The Doctors hold out little hope and have said that Radiation and Chemo are no longer any use.
Pete's family has been told to say goodbyes.
If any of you guys wish to send a card or flowers to Pete, here is his address, I am sure Pete would like to hear from his fellow Troopers

Jerry Kelly - I was gunner on a Sheridan tank, F troop 2nd Squadron. Fred Phalen was tank commander - then I was after he left. Roland G. Foster was our driver and John Green was our loader. Dan White was our Lt. I hated ambush assignments, Lurps, ants, and southeast Asia in general. I don't have any tender feelings about "Nam" but I'm glad to find this site. God bless all you guys.
